For centuries, people have searched for meaning, purpose and truth. Philosophers and religious leaders have offered many different paths and wisdom. But Jesus claimed something astonishing – “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus alone promises to reveal God the Father and show us the good life. But can we really trust him? And is following him truly the path to fulfillment? This sermon explores what it means that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
- Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. He is the only way to the Father. There is no other way.
- We tend to think we can earn salvation through our good works and intentions, but Jesus says we must simply believe and trust in him.
- Jesus perfectly reveals God the Father through his life and teachings. Whoever has seen Jesus has seen the Father.
- Following Jesus and serving him is the good life. It may seem hard at first, but his yoke is easy and his burden is light. Jesus assures us rest for our souls.
- We often lack a true belief that following Jesus is the good life. We think it deprives us of pleasure and satisfaction. But Jesus promises peace, joy and fulfillment in himself.
- We need the Holy Spirit to help us see and believe that Jesus truly is the goodness of God made visible, not just the truth. The Spirit reveals Jesus’ sweetness and goodness to our hearts.
In our hearts, we know there has to be more to life than what the world offers. There must be a higher purpose and goodness beyond what we can see. Jesus promises he is that better way – a life of peace, joy and love beyond anything we can imagine. But we have to take the first step and truly believe that Jesus shows us the Father and offers the good life.
The question remains – will we trust him enough to follow? M
May the Holy Spirit would stir your heart and open your eyes to see Jesus for who he truly is – the way, the truth and the life. May his goodness captivate you and draw you ever closer to walk in his way.
