Signs of Change

Preached by

From a quiet miracle at a village wedding, to an angry act of temple cleansing—the signs of Jesus captivate and confuse. As we open the pages of John’s gospel, intriguing stories unfold that both conceal and reveal the glory of Christ.

What do these perplexing signs signify?

Explore the layered revelations that point to Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah—the very Son of God. From changing water into fine wine, to predicting his own death and resurrection, Jesus masterfully initiates his ministry in Jerusalem. In signs seemingly small yet steeped in meaning, Jesus comes proclaiming the arrival of a new age of grace and truth. But will the fickle human heart believe and receive God’s Anointed One?

Listen for the Spirit’s whisper as we encounter the Christ through John’s vantage point. Let every sign, every image, and every symbol unveil the surpassing greatness of the Father’s gift in His one and only Son.

The wedding sign shows his glory (Verses 1-12)

  • Jesus quietly turned water into wine to save a bridegroom from dishonor
  • This first sign points to Jesus’ divine glory and power as Lord of creation

The temple sign shows his authority (Verses 13-22)

  • Jesus cleared money-changers from the temple for turning it into a marketplace
  • By calling it “my Father’s house,” Jesus claims authority as the Son of God
  • The sign of his authority is his death and resurrection – the ultimate sign of who he is

The public signs show his wisdom (Verses 23-25)

  • Though many believed in Jesus, he knew the fickleness of human hearts
  • Jesus possesses divine wisdom to know what is in people’s hearts

The signs of Christ shine before us, illuminating our path with brilliant glory. How will we respond to such visions of grace?

Will we hardened our hearts in cynicism or unbelief? Or will God’s love break through to awaken faith within us?

Jesus knows the faltering weakness inside each human soul. Yet he came to lift the fallen, restore the broken, and redeem the lost. Where we see scarcity, he provides abundant wine. Where we chase prosperity, he offers cleansing grace. Through his death and resurrection, mercy triumphs over judgment.

Do not turn away unaffected from these signs of glory and grace. Let the extravagant love of Christ transform cold indifference into burning passion. Allow his compassion to melt callous hearts into overflowing kindness.

Jesus is calling us to himself—calling us to life everlasting. He who believes in the Son enjoys eternal riches now and forever. Fix your eyes upon Christ and follow him wholeheartedly today. Allow his life to remake your own until his image shines brilliantly from within. The signs of the Messiah beckon—will you have eyes to see and ears to hear? The hour of decision is at hand. Believe and receive new life in his glorious name!
