The book of Colossians has the potential to transform our lives if we follow Christ and put down deep roots in him. Paul warns of two things we can drift into: human-centered philosophies and man-made legalism.
- Staying anchored to Jesus will keep our belief systems from drifting. The fixed point is Jesus.
- Human-centered philosophies emphasize the goodness of man outside of Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Paul warns to not fall for this empty deception.
- Man-made legalism says good works are required to earn salvation. But only Jesus can change our hearts.
We can stay anchored to Jesus by:
- Getting to know him through his Word
- Recognizing Christ lives in us and we are in him
- Guarding our influences by who we listen to
- Staying connected to the body of Christ through a local church
If we stay rooted in Christ, we can impact the world in ways we can’t imagine. Jesus is calling us to follow him deeply.
