Generosity

Preached by

What if I told you there’s a little-known group that discovered the key to real freedom and fulfillment – even in tough times? When hardship hit, they banded together and did something counterintuitive: they gave. And in giving, they found more than they ever lost. Their story shows that true wealth isn’t measured in dollars, but in the connections and impacts we make. Stick around to learn their surprising secret – and how applying it could change your life and your community for the better.

  1. The churches in Macedonia gave generously despite their own poverty and hardship. They gave joyfully and voluntarily, even begging to participate.
  2. Their giving overflowed from God’s grace at work in them. They gave themselves first to the Lord.
  3. This example of generosity is rooted in recognizing the grace of Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, he became poor for our sake so that by his poverty we might become rich.
  4. When we truly grasp the generosity of Jesus, we are freed to be generously give our time, talents, and treasures for God’s kingdom work. We don’t give out of compulsion but out of joy.
  5. We are invited to practice kingdom generosity by giving to help another local church in need right now. When we give as the church, we spread God’s grace.

The Macedonians prove that generosity is about so much more than money – it’s about the lives we touch. When we make room to support others, amazing things happen. Stress falls away as we focus outside ourselves. We find purpose greater than any paycheck. And who knows who we might inspire just by keeping each other afloat during life’s storms. Their small acts rippled out in huge ways. Imagine if we all made spreading good our guiding priority.

Our neighborhoods could thrive in ways we never imagined. Hard times don’t have to shut us down – they can call us up to our full potential. So why not give service instead of excuses? You might be surprised by how much richer you feel. Our communities need each person playing their part. I hope you’ll answer the call to lift each other up.
